POSITION PURPOSE: To provide management support and oversight for all production activities at the site and provide training for the manufacturing personnel. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES: Essential functional duties of the position Direct, coach, provide oversight, and schedule Chemical Operators for the safe and efficient production of pharmaceutical products. Optimize plant operations to meet production requirements. Schedule overtime and vacation coverage for Chemical Operators. Proper documentation of Chemical Operators work time using timekeeping computer software. Provide training for Chemical Operators.
Typical training subjects include batch sheets, SOP’s, equipment operation, change control and PSM information.
Continually evaluate training programs to improve comprehension of training material. Ensure operators are aware of any new changes in procedures and/or equipment. Enforce all safety rules, procedures required in batch sheets, and procedures required by approved SOP’s. Troubleshoot and resolve process and equipment problems as they arise, following all appropriate safety and GMP procedures. Coordinate with maintenance for timely resolution of operational issues.  Constant monitoring of plant conditions to ensure safe operation. Assume the role of Incident Commander (as defined in the Emergency Response Plan) during any type of emergency situation. Prompt notification of proper authorities (internal and external) in case of emergencies. Be proficient with the SAP computer software for proper work order entry, raw material ordering notification, scheduling of production runs, printing of batch sheets. Investigate and document root cause of any “out of specification” batches, safety incidents, process or equipment failure. Conduct performance evaluations for Chemical Operators, giving positive and constructive feedback. Secondary responsibilities/accountabilities Review production batch sheets daily for accuracy.
Re-train chemical operators as needed to achieve error free batch sheets. Monitor inventories to ensure that an adequate supply of raw materials is on-hand for production requirements. Keep Director of Manufacturing informed and aware of plant operations/problems on a daily basis. Provide an accurate daily production report and updated production projection. Issue hot work permits and vessel entry permits as required. Initiate, review, and complete MOC documentation as needed to maintain cGMP and OSHA compliance at the plant site. RELEVANT QUANTITATIVE DIMENSIONS:
Direct supervision of 12 to 18 Chemical Operators on work shifts. Indirectly supervises off-shift maintenance and QC Lab Technicians as necessary. In this role, the incumbent(s) will typically work a 12 hour shift either on days or nights.
Must be able to work additional days to cover shift vacancies.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: The following knowledge and proficiency skills are required for this position to be acquired through a minimum of a high school diploma and at least 5 years of relative experience in FDA, EPA, and OSHA regulated chemicals manufacturing.
In addition, the following skills are desirable: Understand chemical processes and equipment operations under his/her supervision. Good written and verbal communication skills and team oriented management skills. The ability to properly prioritize simultaneous events. Familiarity with SAP, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Process Control Systems, AIMS, and other software to assist in day-to-day activities.
