SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST I-CHEMICAL DEVELOPMENT, FERMENTATION & BIOTRANSFORMATION in Albany, NY
AMRI provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
The Sr. Research Scientist I is an integral part of the AMRI team, contributing to our success by providing expertise in enzymology and synthetic biocatalysis.  The Senior Research Scientist is responsible for (i) conducting a productive experimental program; (ii) coordinating scientific plans, results, and resources effectively between multiple projects; (iii) communicating results and issues within the projects and the organization effectively; and (iv) leading team efforts and providing substantial intellectual contributions to the problems assigned.

• Carry out an active program of research in biocatalytic and chemical synthesis, purification of product compounds, and development of new services related to Group capabilities.

• Apply a wide range of analytical techniques to measure and characterize reaction and purity profiles. Develop and maintain working knowledge of commonly used spectroscopic and chromatographic procedures.

• Supervise the work of assigned scientists.  This includes the responsibility for the appropriate motivation, education,efficiency, evaluation, and productivity of the scientists.

• Provide specific technical expertise to execute internal and external projects in the areas of synthetic bio catalysis, route development, and metabolite synthesis.
• Particular focus on bench execution of synthetic strategies with ability to cross train on whole cell biotransformation and PQS separations/analytical  work
• Keep a routine flow of quality ideas for achieving target compounds.  This will be evident by the level of productivity in the group.

• Keep contemporary, accurate, legible, and complete experimental records in accordance with GMP and GLP practices.

• Publish scientific work, maintain useful external contacts, and participate in professional societies in a manner, which will bring forth useful information and enhance the scientific reputation of the Senior Scientist and the Company.

Qualifications


• Qualifications and background to be successful in this role:

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, enzymology or related area

• 3-7 years Postgraduate experience with a strong background in synthetic techniques and separation/analytical methods.
• Thorough knowledge and Experience in conducting natural product biotransformations and/or biocatalytic reactions is highly desirable
• Chemical Hygiene Training
