Research Scientist I (Chemical Development) in Albany, New York AMRI provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The Research Scientist I (Chemical Development) is an integral part of the AMRI team, contributing to our success by being part of a multi-disciplinary team, committed to the safe non-GMP manufacture of chemical intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). • Adapt internal or customer supplied procedures to kilo lab production operations.
• Manufacture batches of chemical intermediates and APIs on multi-kilogram scale under Non-Clinical Safety Study (NCSS) material production guidelines.
• Manage all aspects of a manufacturing campaign, including batch record review, safety evaluations, material procurement, equipment set-up/cleaning and project execution.
• Perform routine analysis of chemical intermediates using analytical instrumentation such as NMR and HPLC.
• Conduct laboratory operations in a safe manner.  Maintain familiarity with the Chemical Hygiene Plan.  Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.
• Supervise production technicians/laboratory aides.
• Write interim and final production reports as required.
• Discuss routinely with supervisor the status of the assigned programs and potential problems.

Qualifications

Qualifications and background to be successful in this role:  Required:
• BS. Degree in Chemistry (or a related discipline) or relevant industrial experience. Preferred:
• BS. Degree in Organic Chemistry.
• Prior experience working in the pharmaceutical industry.
