Systems Engineer in Albany, NY

AMRI provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

The Systems Engineer is an integral part of the AMRI team, contributing to our success in installation, maintenance, and repair of the Wide Area and Local Area networks to include:  Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Servers (Windows & Linux), Storage, Antivirus, Backup  and Recovery.  The Systems Engineer will act as a technical liaison to project teams in the execution and delivery of key projects in support of company goals and objectives.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

•         Install, configure, document, and support server hardware and applications in a Linux/Windows environment.

•         Perform hardware, operating system, security and application updates/patches on these systems, as well as operating system hardening based in industry standards.

•         Management of directory structures, rights, and security on Linux/Windows servers.

•         Provide management, troubleshooting, and support for DNS, DHCP, WINS, Active Directory, routers, switches, and firewalls.

•         Management, troubleshooting, and support of enterprise wide antivirus solutions.

•         Maintain storage environments (SAN, NAS, DAS, etc) as well as make recommendations for optimal storage solutions to support business initiatives.

•         Management, troubleshooting and support of enterprise wide computer backup hardware and software.

•         Participate in projects to improve the global infrastructure working with IT staff and end-users.

•         Perform routine monitoring of systems for availability, performance and capacity planning. Report on key metrics governing the operation of all systems.

•         Provide technical support, as needed, to the Helpdesk and Desktop Support Team.

•         Consult with software and hardware vendors on IT purchases, support, quotes, etc.

•         Keep up to date on current technologies applicable to the work environment using available resources.

•         Generate new ideas to increase the quality or efficiency of business processes or procedures

•         Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.

•         Be available for upgrades, trouble-shooting and projects that may occur after traditional office hours.

•         Work with IT management to determine IT needs and ensure tasks are prioritized to meet business needs.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

•         B.S. in Computer Science or related field, or A.S in Computer Science and 3-5 years experience in Computer related field.

•         Minimum of three years IT experience (including one year of computer network related experience.)

•         Experience with configuration and deployment of Linux and Windows Servers

•         Experience with configuration and maintenance  of Storage Area Networks

•         Experience with configuration and maintenance of Firewalls, Routers, and Switches

•         Experience with configuration and maintenance of Backup Hardware and Software

•         Preferred – Microsoft, Linux/Unix, Cisco certifications

•         Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate well with others in a project team environment

•          Excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills

•         Ability to deliver key projects/assignments on time with minimum supervision and attention to detail

•         Self-motivated and resourceful
