Production Supervisor in Springfield, MO

Albany Molecular Research Inc. provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

The Production Supervisor is an integral part of the AMRI team, contributing to our success by being responsible for the manufacturing of Bulk Chemicals/Pharmaceuticals and for maintaining the manufacturing equipment and facilities according to prescribed cGMP guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOP).  The incumbent supervises the hourly production work force insuring strict adherence to manufacturing processes and work practices.

In this role, you will:
  • Direct and schedule Chemical Operators for the safe and efficient production of chemical products, for the preparation of equipment for maintenance, and for duties to maintain plant cleanliness.
  • Constant monitoring of plant conditions to ensure safe operation.
  • Optimize plant operations to meet production requirements.
  • Enforce all safety rules, procedures required in batch sheets, and procedures required by approved SOP’s.
  • Ensure that all operators are aware of any new changes in procedures and/or equipment.
  • Prompt notification of proper authorities (internal and external) in case of emergencies.
  • Be proficient with the SAP computer software for proper work order entry, raw material ordering notification, scheduling of production runs, printing of batch sheets
  • Proper documentation of Chemical Operators work time using the Kronos computer software.
  • Investigate and document root cause of any “out of specification” batches, safety incidents, and process or equipment failure.
  • Provide training for Chemical Operators.  Typical training subjects include batch sheets, SOP’s, equipment operation, change control and PSM information.  Continually evaluate training programs to improve comprehension of training material.
  • Discipline as necessary to ensure compliance with plant policies.
  • Call in and supervise mechanics when needed.
  • Ensure proper and adequate training for transferred or newly hired chemical operators.
  • Schedule overtime and vacation coverage for Chemcal Operators.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process and equipment problems as they arise, following all appropriate safety and GMP procedures.
  • Provide assistance and/or training to Chemical Operators by maintaining a detailed knowledge of plant equipment and procedures.
  • Conduct formal performance reviews for Chemical Operators, giving positive and negative feedback.
Secondary responsibilities/accountabilities
  • Review production batch sheets daily for accuracy.  Re-train chemical operators as needed to achieve error free batch sheets.
  • Monitor inventories to ensure that an adequate supply of raw materials is on-hand for production requirements.
  • Keep Director of Manufacturing informed and aware of plant operations/problems on a daily basis.
  • Provide an accurate daily production report and updated production projection.
  • Issue hot work permits and vessel entry permits as required.
  • Initiate, review, and complete MOC documentation as needed to maintain cGMP and OSHA compliance at the plant site.

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a high school diploma and at least 5 years of relative experience in FDA, EPA, and OSHA regulated chemicals manufacturing.  

In addition, the following skills are desirable: 
  • Understand chemical processes and equipment operations under his/her supervision.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and team oriented management skills.
  • The ability to properly prioritize simultaneous events.
  • Computer familiarity with Kronos, SAP, SOP View, Process Control Systems, AIMS, and other software to assist in day-to-day activities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms above shoulder height, climb or balance and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.   The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required in this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  Must be medically fit to wear a respirator.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to work in a manufacturing office environment and is regularly required to enter the production area of a typical manufacturing facility which has moving mechanical parts, and may have fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, wet and /or humid conditions, low levels of toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
