Shared Services Controller – General Accounting in Albany, NY

AMRI provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. 

The Shared Services Controller – General Accounting is a key member of the U.S. Shared Services team, with primary responsibility for the management and execution of the core accounting and processing areas of cash, general accounting, fixed assets and treasury. Additionally, this person will be responsible for administration of the company credit card programs and bank activities. The overall objective is maximizing the level of service/efficiency provided by shared services teams. Additionally, this position will assist in M&A integration and special initiatives related to global accounting activities, system improvements and process enhancements. This position works closely with the corporate finance and business operations teams providing a path to accelerated learning and valuable accounting and management experience.

Responsibilities 

•Responsible for daily cash management, bank administration and reconciliation of entities supported by Shared Service team
•Responsible for the General Ledger shared service accounting team which includes maintaining all shared service supported balance sheet accounts, monthly journal entries and reconciliations. The areas typically include: prepaids, accrued compensation and benefits items, accrued expenses (professional fee and legal), and various other accounts. Debt related reconciliations may also be assumed
•Responsible for SG&A and BU month-end scrub activities to ensure proper accounting of transactions. Assist FP&A teams in understanding charges and drive efficiencies by identifying root cause of incorrect postings and work with the shared service team to remediate
•Responsible for the Fixed Asset shared service accounting team which includes maintaining all fixed asset roll forwards, recording of fixed asset related activities – capitalizing, depreciation, retirement and sale of asset, change in valuation exercises, conversion of assets from CIP into a fixed asset, managing the fixed asset module, CIP/Asset clearing for Albany locations. Perform oversite reviews of site CIP balances to ensure items are capitalized and reconciled in a timely manner. Provide support to local sites and FPA (forecasting) as requested, main point of contact for fixed asset sub ledger for oracle locations
•Responsible for credit card administration. Card maintenance within the card system platform for T&E and Purchasing card programs. Reconciliation and recording of transactions. Ensuring card limits are maintained and user/approver responsibilities are performed to avoid cards being suspended
•Responsible for actively supporting close acceleration initiatives that achieve and maintain a maximum 5-4 day close cycle
•Responsible for Audit coordination for items covered under the Shared service team area. Audits may be external financial, external tax, internal customers etc.
•Supports the Shared service teams of Accounts Payable, Revenue/AR Billing on an ad hoc basis as needed
•Supports the cash, general accounting and treasury element of strategic business initiatives and transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and due diligence/integration activities as needed

Job Requirements

Requirements 

•Financial Expertise - Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required; undergraduate degree in business, accounting or finance required. Experience managing teams a plus
•Experience in performing or managing general accounting and treasury function requirements, including corporate policies and processes, cash management activities, general accounting, fixed asset and debt
•Project Management/Process improvement – High level - very organized with excellent workload prioritization and project management skills. Develops and manages processes that are effective and efficient. Able to multi task and promote best practices within the organization and team
•People Management - Strong effective interpersonal and communication skills with the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a global matrix environment. Maintains effective working relationships across the company, at the business unit, functional, and corporate level
•Working knowledge of basic US GAAP accounting principles, foreign currency exchange, and intercompany transactions
•Possesses the behavioral attributes of the competencies in the AMRI finance competency model: critical thinking and analysis, business insight, decision making, drive for results, financial expertise, project management and process improvement, collaboration and team work, people management and influence
