SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST I/II - ANALYTICAL TECHNOLOGY in West Lafayette, IN


AMRI provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.


The Senior Research Scientist I/II, Analytical Technology oversees a group that primarily supports solid state analysis of drugs, drug products, drug delivery devices, and wide variety of other materials.  The incumbent will lead a diverse team of managers and scientists and will efficiently manage scientific efforts and resources to ensure the attainment of objectives in a timely manner.  The Group Leader must effectively communicate with the site management team and customers with the highest professional standards. 


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Provide leadership and efficient management of the Analytical Technology group by setting objectives, continuous performance assessment, mentoring, and individual development as appropriate.
  • Lead a technical group consisting of managers and scientists in conducting multiple simultaneous projects requiring a wide range of problem-solving skills with strong commitment to customer expectations.
  • Improve productivity, efficiency, and profitability of the Analytical Technology group.
  • Allocate resources for the Analytical Technology group according to the priorities for the site.
  • Provide clients with properly scoped and priced proposals for analytical work.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities and client relationships.
  • Provide expert recommendations for procurement and on-boarding of new instruments based on regulatory and market requirements.
  • Support all other technical groups at the site with implementing strategic regulatory and scientific solutions for pharmaceutical development projects.
  • Oversee the design, development, validation, and implementation of analytical testing methods, specifications, protocols, and reports.
  • Regularly interact with other AMRI colleagues (including sales, marketing, procurement, etc.) to provide the best possible service to clients.
  • Act as the expert technical consultant and primary contact with external customers and internal colleagues.
  • Recommend and implement procedures and techniques to increase the quality of analytical services.
  • Ensure that the Analytical Technology group consistently complies with corporate and site operating procedures, including GMP regulations.
  • Ensure that laboratory operations are continuously conducted in a safe manner according to AMRI Environmental Health and Safety requirements.
  •  Resolve any issues and provide possible solutions through interactions with site management, especially as it relates to the improvement of technical capability, morale, and productivity of the Analytical Technology group.  Determine and implement strategies for relevant organizational development.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • This position will have direct supervisory responsibilities for laboratory managers and scientists.  Previous supervisory experience is required.



Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and/or Experience

• B.S. or higher degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or related field

• 10 ‒ 15 years of experience in the relevant pharmaceutical industry and direct experience in solid state drug development is a strongly preferred

• At least 5 years in management role in GMP pharmaceutical environment

• Expert in analytical technologies such as XRPD, microscopy, spectroscopy, thermal analysis, chromatography, and wet chemistry principles

• Extensive knowledge and working experience in solid state drug development

• Knowledge of cGMP regulations for the pharmaceutical industry

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Strong leadership experience
