Security Manager
Albany Molecular Research Inc. provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.


Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Manager, EH&S, the Physical Security Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of building security for the Albuquerque site.  This position will work closely with the Human Resources (HR), Engineering/Maintenance and the DEA Compliance Manager to provide employees and contractors, access to the buildings, departments, and/or restricted access, as it relates to controlled substances.  Also, in support of employee new hire, transfer, or termination, this position maintains the employee access list, which includes the access level and type.  This position assists the DEA Compliance Manager with security matters and investigations to safeguard the company’s critical assets – people, property, and products.  This position is also responsible for implementing a security program, training plan, strategy and strong minded security environment within all departments. This position assists with physical security by coordinating with Contracted Security Company, DEA Compliance Manager,  IT and security alarm/camera contractors to ensure the proper functioning of all camera and other security equipment.   This position will also be dual hatted in EH&S functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identifies and assesses physical security, occupational health and safety, and environmental risks to the organization.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of the organization on security and safety initiatives, projects, and information.
  • Assigns and issues badge and/or key access to new employees, as required.
  • Coordinates with and the DEA Compliance Manager to maintain a current list of active employees.
  • Partners with the DEA Compliance Manager to maintain a list of persons with access to controlled substances.
  • Partners with the DEA Compliance Manager to develop an on-call alarm response list and controlled substance employee access list.
  • Updates on an as needed basis all employee changes that affect badge and key access, including access levels (keys, codes, combinations) as it relates to restricted access for controlled substances.
  • Collaborates with IT and the Security Vendor, the specification selection and procurement of all security related devices and systems.
  • Develops and provides input on budget proposals related to security related devices and systems.   
  • Develops and conducts training pertinent to Security and Safety on a reoccurring and as needed basis.
  • Updates and maintains SOPs
  • Coordinates with the appropriate business unit to have repairs and preventative maintenance of lighting, exterior or interior doors, and any other security related item repaired or replaced to ensure the integrity of the facilities.
  • Completes on a routine basis, a security risk/vulnerability assessment of all facilities and recommend proposals to optimize or remediate security vulnerabilities/threats.
  • Partners with the DEA Compliance Manager and Law Enforcement (LE) to investigate source(s) of security breach(s).     
  • Partners with the on-site Contracted Security Company to re-enforce the overall security of the facilities and employees.
  • Regularly monitors security cameras to detect possible security breaches or abnormal activity. 
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all security systems and infrastructure related to the facilities (e.g., camera type/specifications, Digital Video Recorder (DVR), Network Video Recorder (NVR), duration of recording storage, motion detectors, security hardware, software and licensing, and the physical integrity of the facilities).
  • Routinely audits Physical and Digital security aspects of the facilities.
  • Manages documents related to the Physical and Digital footprint of the facilities, including documentation related to changes, installations, and other security related matters.  
  • Leads through training, and by example, to develop a strong security minded culture site-wide.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and be available for on-call security related matters.  
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, EH&S.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience:                                                 
Bachelor’s Degree or ten years security experience. Pharmaceutical Industry experience a plus or a combination of education and experience. Strong security vendor management skills with proven track record of managing security systems and relationships.
 
Language Skills:                                             
Ability to read and interpret documents such as Security Systems information, Compliance Regulations, Facility Drawings, EH&S compliance documents as they apply to site security.  Ability to write clearly.  Ability to speak effectively.
Mathematical Skills:                                                   
Ability to apply basic math concepts.
 
 
Reasoning Ability:                                          
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
Computer Skills:                                             
Knowledge of Internet software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software, Power Point software and Word Processing software.
Other Skills and Abilities:                                           
Individual must possess the knowledge and the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Must be able to read and understand CAD as they relate to building security and EH&S to be in compliance with DEA physical security requirements and other regulating agency requirements
Knowledge of Law Enforcement and Security procedures as it relates to alarm and security practices.
Great attention to detail, strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Extensive understanding and knowledge of industrial security. 
Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to maintain a high level of customer service.
Be able to work creatively, independently and collaboratively as a team member and be able to multi-task and prioritize projects.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
 
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
