The Research Scientist I, Chemical Development is an integral part of the AMRI team, contributing to our success by performing the synthesis, purification, and identification of chemical intermediates and target compounds.

In this role, you will:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 



                             

•       Demonstrate proficiency in synthesizing known compounds efficiently using literature or in-house notebook procedures.

•       Under supervisory direction, synthesize new compounds by making appropriate modifications of known methods. 

•       Modify reaction conditions in order to improve yields.

•       Purify synthesized chemicals to an appropriate degree.  The scientist will be able to use the full range of chromatographic, crystallization, and distillation techniques.

•       Analyze and identify compounds using a good range of modern separation and spectroscopic techniques.  This will include interpretation of TLC, HPLC, polarimetry, IR, and NMR spectra of moderate complexity.

•       Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope and contributes to the completion of routine technical tasks.

•       Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with major in chemistry or equivalent industrial experience

•       Chemical Hygiene training

•       Communication skills - Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or management. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management.

•       Mathematical Skills - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

•       Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
