Manager, Environmental Health & Safety in Springfield, MO



Albany Molecular Research Inc. provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.


Asa member of the site leadership team, the primary function of the EHS Manageris to create a strategicpartnership with department leaders to assist in identifying workplace safetyand health risks and implementing control measures that align with site andcorporate initiatives.  The EHS Manageris responsible for knowing, interpreting, and appropriately applying allapplicable federal, state, and local laws, statutes and regulations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Leadsite audits, risk assessment activities and implement corrective actionpromptly to ensure company and regulatory compliance.
  • Inpartnership with operational leadership, set up and maintain safety trainingprograms in all applicable safety competency areas. Assure training isappropriately documented, reviewed constantly to assure compliance andtimeliness and maintain appropriate written records/ documentation of suchtraining being conducted and reinforced.
  • Understandapplicable state and federal and regulatory requirements for safety, hazardous wasteand industrial hygiene.
  • Ensurethe facility is prepared to respond to incidents, emergencies, and otherunwanted events.
  • Overseehazardous waste program to ensure waste is being disposed of according to alllocal, state, and federal regulations. Responsible for submitting all required reports and fees associated withhazardous waste disposal. 
  • Ensurecompletion of regulatory documents, reports and other record keepingrequirements.
  •  Workclosely with plant leadership and scientific staff to assure that appropriateprocess safety considerations are being and that practices and procedures areplanned and followed. Examples range from providing appropriate PPE toconducting a full safety assessment of the project.
  • Train,mentor and supervise EHS staff. 
  • Responsiblefor overseeing the development of the Industrial Hygiene program.
  • Ensureappropriate recordkeeping and regulatory reporting is in place.
  • Ensurecomprehensive employee and contractor orientation for safety is conducted.
  • Participatein and assist with the development of continuous improvement activities andcost savings initiatives.
  • Guideand promote safe work performance by developing safety policies, implementingsafety campaigns, and training supervisors and employees on EH&Sexpectations.
  • Performother duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.

Education and/or Experience

  • B.S. in Safety,Environmental Science or related field or appropriate  industrialexperience
  • 5-7 years priorrelevant experience.



Language/Communication Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general businessperiodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmentalregulations.  Ability to write reports,business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions fromgroups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MathematicalSkills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in allunits of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent andto draw and interpret bar graphs.

ReasoningAbility

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with avariety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizationexists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,oral, diagram, or schedule form.
