Job Description

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Small Scale Manufacturing Technician supports new product and existing product development by working to manufacture products within a safe GMP environment.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

1.      Effectively utilize standard laboratory and Small Scale Manufacturing equipment and instrumentation.  Participate in the cleaning, upkeep and maintenance of the laboratories, production areas, and equipment.

2.      Complete and maintain associated batch documentation necessary for the manufacture of active pharmaceutical intermediates or other products.

3.      Perform all duties safely in accordance with AMRI Safety Program, OSHA requirements, FDA regulations, and all applicable federal, state and local regulations.

4.      Perform all duties and remain current with the guidelines outlined by Good Manufacturing Practices for active pharmaceutical intermediates. 

5.      Be proactive in assuming responsibilities that enable the manufacturing areas to function more effectively such as maintaining excellent housekeeping, initiating maintenance requests to repair faulty equipment, assisting in casual maintenance, and effectively preparing for new production.

6.      Assisting Development Chemists as necessary in preparing for project startups.

7.      Required to operate the various reactors, filters and dryers.  Additionally, the technician will be required to operate all support systems within the building such as the breathing air system, scrubbers, vacuum systems, etc. as needed to perform assignments.

8.      Communicate with development chemists, analytical chemists, QC and QA personnel, material handling personnel, maintenance and engineering personnel, information systems personnel and specific members of management (when requested). 

9.    Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or service.

10.  Participate in self-development activities and training of others.

11.  Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.

12.  Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

•         High School diploma or equivalent. 

•         Associates Degree in a technical discipline such as science or engineering or experience in a laboratory or chemical manufacturing environment.  Mechanical aptitude is a plus. 

Language/Communication Skills

Communication skills and an ability to work with others in a team environment are necessary.  The candidate must be capable of working in a demanding physical and intellectual environment.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

be required to obtain/qualify for and maintain the clearance to wear a respirator at a “class B” level or above following OSHA mandated guidelines.
