Job Description


The Position

The Manager, Compensation will join our global Human Resource department in Albany, NY and provide support for our global compensation initiatives. The Manager, Compensation will partner with others in HR to develop and deploy competitive strategies and objectives in compensation practices. This position will manage competitive market analysis, assist with job evaluations, participate in global compensation surveys, and ensure plans and metrics support the business strategy.  The position will lead the on-going design and administration for the salary, annual management incentive plan, and long-term equity plans, and play a leading role in annual performance and salary review process.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide consultative guidance to HR Business Partners and business managers on compensation programs, policies and practices, recommendations, and solutions to attract, motivate, and retain our talented global workforce. 
  • Partner with Global Total Rewards leader in the development and administration of company compensation programs including salary structures and salary planning (e.g., merit, annual incentive) by running reports, conducting data integrity audits, and providing analytics
  • Partner with Finance, HR Operations, and HR Technology to ensure appropriate financial controls and streamlined processes are in place for salary, incentive based compensation, and long-term equity programs. Analyzes cost implications of current and proposed plans
  • Interpret job descriptions, job summaries, and associated skills and responsibilities for external industry compensation benchmarking and evaluation
  • Participate in the review and evaluation of employee salary data, job evaluations and competitive market pay to identify trends, possible inconsistencies, etc.
  • Analyze salary data from a market analysis to support on-going maintenance of salary structures within the organization
  • Monitors the effectiveness of compensation programs, including internal equity and competitive structures, recommending modifications as appropriate.
  • Ensure active participation and continual data submission updates to domestic and international annual salary surveys
  • Support the annual performance management and compensation planning process and system
  • Provide ad hoc as well as self-directed reports and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, issues, etc.
  • Conduct data audits and support data integrity processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity in HRIS and Compensation systems
  • Participate in ad hoc projects and analyses as needed

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • 8 years HR Compensation Program management experience
  • Global Biotech/Pharmaceutical - Manufacturing & R&D industry compensation experience highly desirable
  • Strong consulting, analytical, and reporting skills and experience in adapting compensation practices, policies and philosophy to diverse and challenging business and employee centric opportunities. Ability to interpret and translate global market data to everyday situations. 
  • Collaborative team player who has the ability to effectively interact with multiple working styles as well as work across all levels
  • Must be organized and capable of successfully prioritizing work in a fast moving environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, service orientation, accuracy, detail orientation
  • Must be proficient with large data sets and Microsoft Excel
