Associate Director, Supply Chain

Albany Molecular Research Inc. provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. 

Summary:
The Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for leading all supply chain and material control functions at the manufacturing facility in Albuquerque NM.  Additionally, the Supply Chain Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Supply Chain team.  Performs managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.   
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement supply chain processes that support business strategies and are flexible to changing market conditions, new business opportunities, or cost reduction strategies.
  • Responsible for producing and executing against an Annual Operating Plan (AOP) that includes quarterly targets and inventory reduction initiatives to positively impact cash flow.  Measure progress through metrics. 
  • Monitor forecasts and firm demand to identify changes or to determine their effect on supply chain activities.
  • Direct and collaborate with demand and supply teams to forecast demand or create supply plans that ensure availability of materials or products.
  • Define performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of supply chain factors, such as customer service, lead times, delivery to promise, delivery to request, etc.
  • Evaluate and select information or other technology solutions to improve/provide visibility to delivery performance, customer satisfaction, and available capacity.
  • Manage activities related to strategic or tactical purchasing, master data input, material requirements planning, inventory control, warehousing, shipping, or receiving.
  • Analyze information about supplier performance or procurement program success.
  • Meet with suppliers to discuss performance metrics, to provide performance feedback, or to discuss production forecasts or changes.
  • Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, or optimize customer service.
  • Design or implement plant warehousing strategies for production materials or finished products.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (DOT, OHSA, etc.).
  • Document physical supply chain processes, such as workflows, cycle times, position responsibilities, or system flows.
  • Implement new or improved supply chain processes.
  • Ensure compliance with established procedures and maintain effective internal controls. Periodically review procedures and suggest process improvements to meet requirements. 
  • Develop and maintain operations budget for functional areas.
  • Other duties as assigned 
Supervisory Responsibilities:                                                  
Directly supervises employees in the purchasing department.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience:                                                 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related technical field. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, regulated industry, and materials management & procurement is desired. 
 
Language Skills:     
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:   
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
 
Reasoning Ability:  
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:  
Knowledge of Internet software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Other Skills and Abilities:                                           
  • Excellent Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to organize time in order to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Experience with leading/managing staff and operations professionals. 
  • Demonstrated accomplishments towards meeting/exceeding established goals.
  • Knowledge/experience with ERP systems including Oracle, SAP, and JD Edwards is preferred.

Must pass background check
Must pass drug screen                                                  
 
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 
 
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
