SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST I in Grafton, WI

The Senior Research Scientist I is an integral part of the AMRI team, contributing to our success by providing a source of high quality ideas and contributions to the chemical problems assigned through designing, synthesizing, purifying and identifying chemical intermediates and target compounds.

In this role, you will:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                



                             


•       Apply research knowledge to plan and manage projects. Develop strategies that guide assigned projects.


•       Propose new initiatives. Assist and lead direct reports and team members in problem-solving and new methodology.


•       Synthesize target compounds utilizing a blend of both classical and modern technology effectively. Modify reaction conditions in accord with visual observations to allow rapid, successful production of target compounds.


•       Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Provide new ideas based on interpretation of data.


•       Lead exchange of research information through technical assistance and instruction. Be available as a resource and/or collaborator. Contribute to and/or edit publications, reports or experimental protocols; make presentations.  Assist in grant writing/contract and proposal development.


•       Use a broad spectrum of practical laboratory skills as needed; including advanced methods of purification of solvents and reagents, running reactions under anhydrous and oxygen free conditions, and use advanced methods for isolation/purification of sensitive materials.

Required

 

 


•       Ph.D. in Chemistry, or other applicable natural science field and four years of relevant industry experience OR; Master’s degree and seven years of relevant experience OR; Bachelor’s and nine years of relevant experience.


•       Chemical Hygiene training


•       Language/Communication Skills; Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.


•       Mathematical Skills; Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.


•       Reasoning Ability; Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
