Senior Accountant, Manufacturing Finance in Rensselaer, NY

Albany Molecular Research Inc. provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Manufacturing Finance & Accounting team member is a hands-on accounting and finance professional with proven leadership, problem solving, analytical, and communication skills. This role is located at AMRIs largest site in Rensselaer, NY.  

In this role, you will be responsible for preparing month-end activities, cross functional ownership of product standard costs, and detailed analysis of manufacturing variances and inventory valuations. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting & Manufacturing Reporting:
  • Responsible for monthly closing activities and balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Preparation of monthly financial reports and analysis of plant performance, analyzing key plant variance drivers: Functional cost spend, Labor cost, PPV, inventory adjustments, over/under absorption of overheads
  • Prepare, analyze, and report on monthly plant performance metrics, explaining variances to standard/plan
Inventory Management & Reconciliation:
  • Reconcile inventory quantities and dollars each month, ensure systems and controls effectiveness 
  • Calculate appropriate inventory reserves, ie. Obsolescence, slow moving, quality, LCM, etc.
  • Provide reporting on inventory adjustments, cycle counts, scrap, write-offs, and yield.
Standard Costing & Budgeting:
  • Develop new standard costs for products based on budget and explain variances from previous standard
  • Troubleshoot BOMs/ routings that appear unreasonable
  • Support in the development of standard costs for new products.
Capital Projects (CIP):
  • Monitor and track activity on active capital projects and provide monthly reporting to management.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to assure timely and accurate management of expenditures and assure they are in line with expectations.
  • Prepare capitalization requests ensuring proper classifications
  • Conduct physical inventory of fixed assets according to internal GAP
  • Prepare monthly capital expenditure reconciliation to General Ledger
Cost Modeling and Financial Analysis:
  • Make versus buy cost models/analysis
  • Cost models for new products and/or product transfers
  • Provide NPV, IRR, ROI information for key projects

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience 
  • B.S. in Finance, Management, or Accounting or related field with a minimum of 5 years related experience 
  • Must have experience with cost accounting, month-end closing process, and financial reporting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Public Accounting experience a plus, not required
  • Experience with Oracle a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting and practical application of accounting concepts
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills that establish and maintain business relationships. 
  • Proven problem solver and independent thinker.
  • Ability to effectively manage across multiple functions & management levels
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word and PowerPoint.  
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to work independently and with groups.
  • Excellent attentiveness to detail. 
  • Proactive approach to work.
  • Strong organizational skills.
