RESEARCH SCIENTIST I, CHEMICAL DEVELOPMENT in Rensselaer, NY

The Research Scientist I is an integral part of the AMRI team, contributing to our success by performing synthesis, purification, and identification of chemical intermediates and target compounds.

In this role, you will:       


Demonstrate proficiency in synthesizing known compounds efficiently using literature or in-house notebook procedures.

Under supervisory direction, synthesize new compounds by making appropriate modifications of known methods. 

Modify reaction conditions in order to improve yields.

Purify synthesized chemicals to an appropriate degree.  The scientist will be able to use the full range of chromatographic, crystallization, and distillation techniques.

Analyze and identify compounds using a good range of modern separation and spectroscopic techniques.  This will include interpretation of TLC, HPLC, polarimetry, IR, and NMR spectra of moderate complexity.

      Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.                                                                                                                               



Job Requirements



Qualifications and background to be successful in this role:

Bachelors or Master’s Degree with major in chemistry or equivalent industrial experience.

Chemical Hygiene training.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
