Research Associate in Albany, NY



 

AMRI provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
The Research Associate is an integral part of the AMRI team, contributing to our success by developing robust, safe, and economical processes for the production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). In this role the scientist is exposed to developing chemical processes working with experienced scientists. After a mandatory one year term in this role, the employee is eligible for a permanent position.

In this role, you will:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 



                            

  • Design and execute synthetic routes toward assigned targets.
  • Develop reactions into efficient, saleable processes. 
  • Evaluate the safety parameters of the processes.
  • Transfer the processes to the Kilo lab, small scale cGMP, and/or large scale production facilities as required
  • Effectively interface with the customer, Analytical, QA, QC, and scale-up teams.

Job Requirements



Qualifications and background to be successful in this role:

Required
 
  • Ph.D. Degree in Organic Chemistry or equivalent experience (specializing in Organic Synthesis)
  • Experience in route scouting and optimization of multistep syntheses.
  • Good knowledge in the use of HPLC, NMR, and other routinely used analytical tools
  • Strong working knowledge of the chemical literature and searching algorithms.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in order to:
    • interpret experimental data and technical journals
    • maintain laboratory notebook and prepare detailed reports
    • effectively present information to customers, colleagues, top management, and/or public groups
 
Preferred
 
  • Experience in the scale-up of reactions to kilo scale
  • Knowledge in developing chemical processes and technology transfer
  • Knowledge of Process Safety and experience in addressing issues related to process safety
  • Experience in mentoring junior scientists
