SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

It is the responsibility of the Mechanical Technician to perform the maintenance, repair, diagnostics and modification of equipment, utilities, grounds equipment, vehicles and facilities. The Mechanical Technician will maintain a working understanding of plant production  processes, equipment systems, and facilities in order to perform such maintenance effectively; and will work closely with management, engineers, quality control, operations, technical  services, and safety personnel to perform in compliance with all environmental, state, federal regulations and safety procedures. The Mechanical Technician will perform equipment change overs, modifications, and repairs to facility, equipment, and assistsin the maintenance and  upkeep of the facility. He or she will ensure continuous operations and strict adherence to quality standards as defined in the company’s procedures.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Responsible for approved facility modifications, equipment change over, and repair, encompassing electrical, plumbing, painting and light construction.
  2. Accountable for performing job functions to comply with, and adhere to, OSHA requirements, FDA regulations, all applicable federal, state and local regulations, permits, and workplace safety procedure (including but not limited to LOTO, PTW and Machine Guarding).
  3. Maintain a working understanding of plant production processes, equipment, systems, and facilities in order to perform maintenance effectively, handle multiple tasks & work independently under minimal direct supervision.
  4. Support supervisionwith the coordination,assistance, and monitoring of internal and/or external resources/contractors/vendors for maintenance, inspection, and repairs to major or minor equipment and facilities.
  5. Perform preventative & scheduled maintenance on equipment and facilities in accordance with the company's Maintenance Schedule and procedures. Perform work orders related to but not limited to utilities, basic HVAC systems and process equipment.
  6. Properly & accurately document work order execution in CMMS to include accurate time, feedback, and submittal of all work performed. Document equipment preparation,set up, PM and repair in strict accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience

•  Appropriate trade certification and at least 2 years of experience in maintenance and/or repair in manufacturing facility is preferred. An applicable associate’s degree will also be considered.

•  Experience in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry working under FDA regulations is preferred.

• Must possess good written and verbal communication skills and be able to coordinate a number of diverse responsibilities.

• Working knowledge of computers to include major Microsoft Office products.

• Experience with glass lined equipment is desired.

• Current, valid driver’s license.

• Must pass and maintain respirator fit testing

• Must be able to participate in confined space entries.

• Must conform with Lock Out Tag Out

•  Must be able to safely work with chemicals and use appropriate PPE.

• Must be able to work in elevated work environments using harness as required.

Language/Communication Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee frequently is required to stand and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Incumbent may be required to obtain/qualify for and maintain the clearance to wear a respirator at a “class B” level or above following OSHA mandated guidelines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather  conditions; and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
