Manager, Training and Development 

 

 

Albany Molecular Research Inc. provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. 

Summary of Functions:

The Manager of Training and Development’s primary responsibilities will focus on coordinating the site’s training activities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create job and site specific training. Utilize on-the-job, online, and classroom training.  Incorporate all forms of electronic and traditional media.  Key target groups including, but not limited to Analytical Development, Manufacturing Technicians, Environmental and Waste Water Technicians, Warehouse Material Handlers, and Facility Groups.

  2. Confer with managers to determine skill gaps and training needs. Promote training consistency by educating those in supervisory and managerial positions.

  3. Coordinate activities of instructors engaged in training employees. Train instructors to conduct training.

  1. Administer the Learning Management System.

  1. Schedule classes, based on availability of classrooms, equipment, and instructors.

  1. Evaluate current training materials and recommend changes.

  1. Evaluate site orientation program and recommend changes. 

  1. Monitor budget to ensure that training costs do not exceed allocated funds.

  1. Write budget report listing training costs, such as instructors' wages and equipment costs, to justify expenditures.

  1. Monitor instructors during lectures and laboratory demonstrations to evaluate performance and provide feedback for improvement.

  1. Provide regular updates to the Albuquerque Leadership Team on training progress for each group and areas for improvement.

  1. Stay current with training trends by reading technical journals and texts at times beyond the 'normal' working hours.

  2. Participate in self-development activities and training of others.

  3. Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or service. 

  1. Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.

 Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.

This position will supervise approximately 5 Staff Members

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in business administration, psychology or a related field.

  • At least 7-10 years of training experience in an industrial setting or related area.

  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities in a professional and timely manner

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of personnel.

  • Ability to effectively present information in a clear manner, facilitate discussion, demonstrate procedures and respond to questions.

  • Computer and internet skills including Microsoft Office.

  • Experience in Pharma a plus

  • Experience in GMP and Dealing with FDA and various agencies a plus

 Language/Communication Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to prepare presentations and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

           Shifts will vary due to the nature of our business:  Four, ten hour shifts (specific days and hours to be determined   based upon  needs of the business), with some expectation of flexible hours as needed.
