Instrumentation & Electrical Supervisor


Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, I&E supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of electrical/instrumentation technicians in the general maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment. The supervisor ensures strict adherence to safety, maintenance, cGMP and applicable local and national standards.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Delegate electrical/instrumentation activities such as work-orders and preventive maintenance functions
  • Lead safety culture as well as daily safety & performance dialogues with team to provide a high level of safety awareness for our employees and reinforce safe work practice.

  • Balance providing Customer Service to both internal and external customers while prioritizing accomplishing work, production and achieving quality standards.

  • Develop and provide the necessary training for I/E staff. This includes but is not limited to, the audit of operation, setup, calibration, changeover of the electrical and instrumentation equipment supporting the production.

  • Work collaboratively with Facilities and Engineering Services to develop bid quotes for Engineering & Maintenance projects.

  •  Investigate, implement, and complete Plant Modification Requests and Engineering Evaluation Requests as requested by Engineering Services Department.

  •  Assists in developing Preventive Maintenance Procedures, SOPs and departmental procedures and ensures that the procedures are implemented and followed.

  • Investigate, set up and assist in maintaining recommended and critical spare parts for existing and equipment installed by Maintenance or Engineering.
  • Supervise the I/E technicians engaged in equipment installation, preventative maintenance, repairs, and changeovers. Schedule time off and overtime, in accordance with the budget, while supporting manufacturing operations.

  • Responsible for reviewing employee performance and taking corrective and/or disciplinary action under advisement of Human Resources, when necessary.

  • Prioritize and coordinate work with operations supervisors, Maintenance Supervisor, engineers, contractors, and other areas regarding work to be completed and take appropriate action as needed.

  • Confirm the closure of Maintenance Work Orders to ensure detailed Feedback, Hours, and required codes are entered

  • Investigates equipment failures and Implement root cause corrective actions

  • Responsible for the maintenance of tools and equipment of the electrical shop and equipment in other areas.

  • Promote all site initiatives including plant safety programs, lean initiatives, training programs, etc. Consistently interpret and apply all HR policies, practices and procedures among team members to hold team members accountable.

  • Monitor critical system and secure monitoring system to implement quality products and services.

  • Conduct inspections & monitor any issued or completed work permits.

  • Support the manufacturing organization by reviewing key performance indicators, production schedules and other metrics to ensure goals are met.

  • Ensure that routine & preventative maintenance in the buildings, grounds, and equipment is accomplished directly.

  • Support the Facility Manager in the department's efforts to maintain a highly productive, safety conscious, and customer focused department.

  • Coordinate Shutdown Activities to include manpower, contractors, purchase orders and communicating with internal/external customers to ensure a successful, safe, on budget turn around.

Job Requirements

 Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 10 years of industrial maintenance experience OR an Associate’s degree and 8 years of industrial maintenance experience OR a Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of relevant experience. 

  • Knowledge and experience in electrical systems, calibration, instrumentation, pipefitting, rigging, insulation, including knowledge of blueprint reading and mathematics as well as facilities infrastructure grounds and roofs.

  • Experience with electrical, instrumentation, HVAC systems, Glass Lined Equipment, Water or WFI Systems, Regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA & FDA) requirements, etc.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with staff supervision is preferable.
